Counter pressure is a simple, powerful comfort tool during labor. Applied to the hips, lower back, or sacrum, steady pressure can reduce the intensity of back labor, help relieve tension, and give the birthing person something grounding to focus on during surges.

It works by interrupting pain signals, encouraging relaxation, and helping the body feel supported rather than bracing against discomfort.
